North Patroller Team - Crime reduction
How to get involved
We have tried in the past to generate interest in establishing Community Support groups, with the recent influx from the African continent especially. These were not very successful, unfortunately, even the police, I believe, struggle to foster this type of support. We ran a couple of coffee evenings at the Broadoak to get local immigrants together to support one another and for us to sign-post them to relevant agencies/networks. Cllr Sidebottom was very supportive at the time but the turn-outs were so poor, we let the idea go.
We have, also, thought about a ‘Crucial Crew’ to target BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) groups in the past but have been stopped by lack of funds for target-hardening equipment, etc.
We have visited town centre retailers, Polish; Afro-Caribbean; African; etc to offer Home Advice Advisory leaflets around a number of issues.
We visit mosques, small community groups were possible but it is a slow process.
