An update of the work the LINk is doing with Tameside Hospital

Over the last two years the LINk has invited people to tell us about their experiences as patients at Tameside Hospital. We have also asked relatives and carers to tell us. In this time we have gathered the views and experiences of over 400 people.

We're holding this event on 14 June, from 1.30 - 4.00pm, at Ashton Town Hall, to tell people about what has happened at Tameside Hospital in the past year. This event will give you an opportunity to:

Learn about what the hospital has done about our recommendations and what effect that has had.

Tell us about your experiences if you or a relative have used the hospital since May 2011.

Learn about a planned review of hospital services across Greater Manchester.

Help us to plan our hospital-related work for 2012/13.

Why not come to our event?

We want to hear your views and ideas.

If you are not able to attend but would like to tell us about your experiences, please get in touch on 0161 339 4985 (ask for the LINk team).

Grizzly murders and innocent victims are the final result of Ashton’s Manga group’s foray into Tameside’s historical past. Over the past eight months a group of young people and explored the darker sides of Tameside’s past with help from staff at Central Library, Central Art Gallery and Local Studies and Archives Centre in Ashton.

Based on their research into the Black Knight and the Gorse Hall Murder they have created a seventy page long comic book, two animations and costumes which are on display at Central Art Gallery until Saturday 23 June this year.

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery’s Young Roots Scheme which provides young people with real and exciting experiences of heritage and transferable skills.

GMNA open meeting and AGM

The open meeting is entitled 'Taking Stock & Moving Forward' and it will be a chance to review some of the developments in neurological care and treatment at the Neurosciences Centre, Salford.

In addition we will consider the impact of the NHS reforms upon the Neurosciences Centre.
This will be followed by our AGM which will include a 'farewell to Marie Oxtoby' moment. Marie is our current chair and has been very involved right from the beginnings of GMNA (Greater Manchester Neurological Alliance). It would be lovely to see lots of people attend that have worked with Marie in the past, in order to help celebrate her enormous contribution to GMNA and wish her a happy retirement.

Due to limited funds, we will be asking for a donation of £3 per person towards lunch.

To book a place please contact Yvonne, Tel: 0161 743 3701 Email: yvonne.trace@gmneuro.org.uk

National Smile Month

Today’s children have serious tooth decay. Action for Sick Children, is concerned about the increasing numbers of children being hospitalised because of tooth decay. According to a recent ‘Tonight’ programme shown on ITV, a third of children in the UK have tooth decay by the time they start primary school.

Action for Sick Children devised the Dental Playbox Project in response to this issue. The aim is to increase understanding amongst parents and children of the importance of good dental care and regular visits to the dentist.

There are three main oral health messages that Action for Sick Children promotes and these three messages are being mirrored by the British Dental Health Foundation during its thirty-sixth annual oral health campaign, ‘National Smile Month 2012’. During National Smile Month 2012 Action for Sick Children facilitators will be touring schools, nurseries and community centres, holding free sessions lasting up to an hour.
